Have an Own-IT Attitude

Inside Out Empowerment Special Sunday Snippet Edition

What does Own-IT Attitude Mean?

“Own IT” Definition:

The phrase “Own IT” is frequently used throughout this article, so let me explain what it means.

“Own” is short for the word Ownership. Your IT is the goal that you are pursuing. You Own IT until your IT becomes a reality. When you take ownership, you take on the responsibility for taking appropriate action to steps to accomplish the goal.

“Own IT Mindset” Definition:

Having an “Own IT mindset” is all about attitude. Your mental posture is positive and anchored with the understanding that all things are possible to one who believes. You not only take ownership, responsibility, and actions, but you keep your thoughts in alignment with your desired outcome.

What does Own IT mean to You?

Hold your answer until after you have read this article.

There is a lot of unrest across our nation and around the world due to the recent unjust actions taken towards George Floyd that ultimately caused his death. The video that captured the words of George saying “I Can’t Breathe” for 8 minutes and 45 seconds left us speechless. Every person around the world with compassion for life and humanity was shocked into a sad reality that we need help in America. Now that light has shined on the darkness of the unjust acts, “Black Lives Matter” protest for Justice, as well as the unfortunate riots, have emerged as a cry for help and change. As we move forward, how we respond as individuals, as a community, and as a nation means everything.

What Can We Do to Help?

  1. We need an Own-IT Attitude now more than ever
  2. We must Own Our Issues that are surfacing together
  3. We must Carry-ON as long as it takes to bring closure with Solutions to a better future for our children, grandchildren, and for the next generations.

In chapter 10 of my Mind Your Vision 2020 and Beyond book, I share an experience where I had to have an Own-IT Attitude. When light shined on my situation, it brought hope and gave me the second wind that I needed to Carry-ON and to not give up on my dream at that moment. Likewise, now more than ever, we need a second wind to help us to Carry-ON to bring change for the better in our nation. Maybe my story can encourage you to not give up on all law enforcement officers because some mean well (and for those officers who do mean well, please speak up to let us know it). Maybe my story will encourage you to not give up on our stand for justice and to not give up on bringing unity among all ethnic groups and bring peace in America. Read my story in chapter 10 to find out what my dream was at that time and how it all ended. We must Own (the “I Can’t Breathe” Issue) to get to the root of the problem because it goes deeper than what we saw on that George Floyd video.

My Sunday Snippet on June 7th will be a special edition dedicated to the topic “Let’s Unite with an Own-IT Attitude.” I will provide some solutions on how we as a community of all ethnic groups can come together to Own-IT and Carry-ON. The thoughts and words that I plan to share are intended to stir up hope and courage and to bring awareness to a perspective that is not currently being shared. Since the release of my book this year I have shared snippets from a chapter of the book and tied it into our current times. If you would like to listen to past topics, just click here and go on the Sunday Snippets tab on my book website.

Again, my Sunday Snippet on June 7th will be a special edition dedicated to the topic “Let’s Unite with an Own-IT Attitude.” In order to see change for the better, we must bring our attitudes and emotions in check, set aside differences, and unite as one for justice and for a better future for all people.

How to Respond as a Community?

Here is how the Macon, Georgia Community Responded:

1.Organize a Peaceful Protest for Justice

Local groups in Macon partnered with our local law officials to organize and coordinate a peaceful protest. The officers were friendly and watched carefully to provide a safe path for the walkers during the protest.

2. Pray for courage to take a stand for Justice and Honor.

This is what I had to do personally. I am a mother of four sons, and my heart’s cry is for their safety. I shared the message in my heart by putting it on a sign. “Bring Honor Back to the Badge” is the message from my heart. Because of the unjust acts that were done to people of color by some officers, we don’t know who to trust. We don’t know who has good intentions or who has bad intentions. Thank God for those who have the heart to protect black lives too. I had to stand courageously and carry my sign in the walk for justice. Rather than repeating what I have already written in some of my Facebook posts, I will share the links here for you to read them for yourself.

Facebook Post Sharing My Heart as a Mom:

May God Bless the Good Facebook Post

A few days later I received a Facebook notification from a friend who shared a post from a local deputy. He and others were reaching out to me to say thank you. At the end of the march, an officer asked me if he could take a picture of my sign and I said sure. Here is the post made by Jeff Pettis. I am so grateful that my message resonated with many others. Thank you Jeff for sharing my message.

After seeing my post, a friend of mine shared one of her posts with an image displaying the words of “The Law Enforcement Oath Honor.” Up until that moment, I wasn’t aware of the words in the oath that law enforcement officers make when being sworn in as a police officer. After reading them, it was a confirmation that the message in my heart meant so much more. I am completely amazed that my post along with my sign captures the essence of the words written in the Oath of Honor shown below.

It became clear to me as to why others asked me if they could take a picture of my sign and why so many people were sharing it and saying thank you. I now realize that those words that cried out from my heart echo God’s cry too. God’s heart is grieved and wants the truth and honor to be restored to those officers that he endorsed to serve all people. Now is a time that we need all of the officers who have the heart to stand together with courage, and hold accountable any officer who brings unjust harm to others, wherein they dishonor their badge and break the Law Enforcement Oath of Honor.

While driving home from work on Friday, June 5, 2020, I decided to use my phone to record my thoughts about the situation that our nation is facing and some solutions began to flow from my mouth. I would like to share those thoughts with you during my Snippets this Sunday. Then, if you are listening live on the broadcast line, you can share your comments and thoughts at the end. If needed, we can go over the allotted time to allow for comments and questions. So again, please tune in…
